What is Twitter?

Twitter is a social networking site and micro-blog that allows users to update their own micro-blog and read others' updates (locally referred to as the tweeter), which consists of text postings on max 140 characters. The updates are displayed on the user profile page and sent to other users who have registered their interest to receive them. The sender can choose to view only their updates to their approved contacts, but any distribution is the default setting. Twitter had a measurement of more than 3 million registered accounts and as another measuring more than 5 million unique visitors in September 2008
